Cataract

Dr. Thomas Edwards is a board-certified cataract surgeon and comprehensive ophthalmologist who has practiced in Atlanta since 1994.  He merged his very successful solo practice with Georgia Eye Partners in 2021.  Dr. Edwards is known to his long-time patients as being a skilled communicator who provides a comfortable and compassionate environment for educating, discussing, and planning the care of each patient.

After completing thirty years in practice, Dr. Edwards chose to take on a new role as director of post-operative refractive management for surgical patients who receive the Light Adjustable Lens (LAL) implants.  This allows him to work closely with all of the cataract surgeons in the practice and their patients following cataract surgery.  He is able to use his refractive planning expertise from decades of performing cataract surgery to help patients with the LAL implants achieve their most precise, customized vision correction.

Dr. Edwards earned his B.S. degree in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was president of Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He remained in Chapel Hill for medical school at UNC School of Medicine on full academic scholarship. Following a transitional internship at UPMC-Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, he completed his ophthalmology residency at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

In his spare time, Dr. Edwards enjoys spending time with family, travel, and everything UNC. Go Tar Heels!
