EyeSouth Partners Surgeon Performs Georgia’s First SING IMT® Implant for Advanced AMD Patients
Posted by: Georgia Eye Partners in News and Updates

We are proud to share a milestone in advanced vision care: Dr. Evan D. Schoenberg, Cornea, Cataract, and Refractive Surgeon at Georgia Eye Partners — an EyeSouth Partners affiliate — has performed the first SING IMT® (Smaller-Incision New-Generation Implantable Miniature Telescope) implantation in the state of Georgia. This groundbreaking procedure expands local access to a cutting-edge option for patients living with late-stage Advanced age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
What Is Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)?
AMD is a leading cause of irreversible vision loss in adults over age 55, significantly impacting independence and quality of life. Until recently, treatment options for late-stage AMD have been limited, leaving many individuals with central vision impairment and few pathways to meaningful visual improvement.
How the SING IMT® Works
The SING IMT® is a next-generation intraocular telescope designed to improve visual acuity by projecting magnified images onto healthy retinal tissue surrounding the macula — effectively reducing the central blind spot caused by AMD. Compared to first-generation devices, the SING IMT® implantation features a smaller incision, an advanced delivery system, and improved stability, which can lead to shorter operative times and faster recovery.
While the SING IMT® does not cure AMD or restore vision to pre-disease levels, it offers many patients measurable improvements in distance and near visual function — particularly when paired with structured post-operative rehabilitation. Recent clinical outcomes reported improvements in visual acuity and reading ability among AMD patients following SING IMT® implantation.
A Milestone for Georgia in Advanced Vision Care
At EyeSouth Partners, innovation is at the heart of our commitment to patient care. Dr. Schoenberg’s leadership in bringing this technology to Georgia underscores his commitment to expanding treatment opportunities for patients facing progressive vision loss.
This SING IMT® implantation represents not just a first for the state, but a meaningful step forward in patient-centered retinal care. We congratulate Dr. Schoenberg and his team on this important achievement and look forward to expanding access to advanced retinal therapies across Georgia and the Southeast.
