Eye Lid Lift (Blepharoplasty)
The eyes are probably the most expressive part of a face, so aging changes like sagging skin and protruding bags of the lower lid can greatly affect one’s appearance. Patients are naturally concerned if excess skin of the lids, heavy eyebrows, and bags under the eyes prevent them from expressing the vitality they feel. These complaints can be corrected with cosmetic surgery of the eyelids, called blepharoplasty. This involves carefully sculpting, removing or repositioning sagging tissues to create a brighter, younger look. Occasionally patients may need an upper blepharoplasty to improve vision that may be obstructed by sagging skin.
Dr. Price uses state of the art lasers to perform the blepharoplasty procedure. This may greatly decrease the duration of surgery and the time required before you may resume normal activities.
Ptosis Repair
Blepharoptosis , or simply ptosis, is characterized by a drooping eyelid which results in a tired and worn appearance. The condition typically develops as result of aging. However, many other things can cause it such as eye injury, previous surgery and certain muscular and neurologic disorders. In advanced cases, vision may become impaired, and performing simple routine tasks such as reading, watching television and driving may become difficult. Symptoms of ptosis include a decreased ability to keep your eyelid open, eye strain, and eyebrow fatigue from the increased effort needed to raise your eyelids. Ptosis may also be present from birth, in which case it is termed “congenital ptosis”. This is a rather urgent medical condition in a child as it can produce amblyopia (“lazy eye”) which may result in permanently impaired vision.
Treatment of ptosis involves raising the drooping eyelid. The muscle tendon is advanced or “tightened” to elevate the lid to a more appropriate level, thus restoring a brighter and younger appearance. Ptosis repair may be performed as an outpatient procedure.
